Lucy Masullo Rodriguez's Picadillo

Serves 4 with rice.


1 lb. lean ground beef
1 small green pepper, chopped
1 small onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, large, minced
1 tsp. ground cumin
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 cup green olives, sliced
1/4 cup raisins
1 can tomato sauce, 8 oz.

Rice to accompany.


  1. Sauté beef, green pepper, onion, and garlic until beef is browned. In other recipes you might brown the beef first and remove rendered fat drippings, but I use a leaner ground beef and keep the extra fat in there for flavor!
  2. Add tomato sauce and spices. Stir and cook down until just barely saucy.
  3. Add olives and raisins and cook until raisins are soft.
  4. Serve over white rice.


Can also add 1/2 cup dry white wine, if desired. (Add at same time as tomato sauce.)
