Apples and Oats

When it’s the end of the semester and the food pantry is running low, and you’re in the middle of writing a paper so there’s no time to go to the store, and even if you could go to the store, you’ve already emptied your bank account on Christmas gifts for your favorite folks–here’s a quick and tasty and maybe even a *little* healthy dish to fry up.

Ingredients:

-a dollop of butter
-frozen apples (about 2 apples, diced)
-a couple of tablespoons of sugar
-dashes of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves (ground)
-tiny dash of salt
-1/3 cup of oats

Instructions:

Heat the butter in a frying pan on the stove top on low until it starts spreading out.
Add apples.
Sprinkle sugar, spices, and salt on top of apples and stir.
Increase to medium heat and add oats.
Stir until water (from frozen apples) and butter boil out–about five minutes.
Enjoy your tasty treat and get back to work on that paper.

This recipe could be modified to use whatever kinds of fruits and spices you have on hand.
