Candler New International Student Orientation 2017

What You Need to Know:

Dear New Student,

Greetings and welcome to the Candler School of Theology -- we are so glad that you have chosen to study with us!

My name is Ellen Purdum, and I am the Assistant Dean of Student Life and Spiritual Formation. I work in the Office of Student Programming on the third floor of the Rita Anne Rollins Building (RARB) at Candler, next to the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid.

You have either received, or soon will receive, correspondence from the Office of Student Programming regarding the REQUIRED All New Masters' Student Orientation at Candler on August 16-18, 2017.

On Tuesday, August 15, 2017, you are also REQUIRED to attend Candler's International Student Orientation and International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) Orientation.

Other Dates That May Involve You:

  • Tuesday, August 15 -- Recommended Pre-Orientation including campus business and library tours
  • Wednesday, August 16 -- For all new United Methodist students a REQUIRED meeting with the Associate Dean of Methodist Studies, Dr. Anne Burkholder
  • Tuesday, August 22 -- For all new students enrolled in Contextual Education I or Teaching Parish a REQUIRED introduction to those programs, also on campus

More detailed information will follow about each Orientation.

Important Note About Arrival

We highly recommend that you plan to arrive in the United States at the beginning of the week of August 7 to give you time to settle in and make your living arrangements. Please also note that if you have children who will be attending Atlanta Public Schools, the first day of school is August 1. Dekalb County Public Schools begin classes on August 7, so plan accordingly if you will have children enrolled in those schools.
